The Strife of Tongues

Sinopsis del Libro

Libro The Strife of Tongues

Fray Luis de Len (1527-91) is known chiefly as the author of some of the finest poetry of the Spanish Golden Age, but he also wrote important prose works in both Latin and Spanish, and produced eloquent translations into Spanish of biblical and classical texts. He spent five years imprisoned in solitary confinement by the Spanish Inquisition, fighting to clear himself of a series of accusations against his views on the Bible. Acquitted on all counts, he returned to teach at the University of Salamanca. This book examines the controversies in which Fray Luis was caught up, and investigates the complex influences upon his writings of his prison experiences, his indebtedness to Judaism, his interests as a linguist, and his work as a biblical scholar and theologian. Colin Thompson looks afresh at Fray Luis's most famous poems and prose works, and explores his understanding of language as a means of enabling God to speak to humanity and humanity to rise to God.

Oniromancia

Libro Oniromancia

The author of the book analyzes five short stories of one of the most significant writers of modern Latin American literature with a mythocritical and symbological approach. From among the endeavors to define and systematize the ancient literary figures for the interpretation of existence (myth, symbol), the author opts for Gilbert Durand's comprehensive system originating in cultural anthropology as a theoretical foundation and starting point for her analytical strategy. The original and dynamic analyses of the short stories, which, at the same time, respect the aspects indicated by the...

Historia de un malentendido

Libro Historia de un malentendido

This book is written in Spanish. " Historia de un melentendido" stands alone as the most comprehensive investigation on Mario Vargas Llosa's ambitious novel "The War of the End of the World." This rigorous study successfully combines careful reconstruction of the many historiographical sources with insightful literary commentary. Among the topics treated by Leopoldo M. Bernucci are the recreation of characters, biblical "figurae," messianism and millenniarism, and the influence of "Rebellion in the Backlands." Given the depth and breadth of critical inquiry, "Historia de un malentendido" will ...

El diablo y Cervantes

Libro El diablo y Cervantes
