Este volumen de la Colección Cartas del Sur corresponde al tomo II del epistolario de Joaquín Mosquera y Arboleda, que comprende cartas escritas entre 1845 y 1874, dirigidas a sus hermanos Manuel María, Manuel José, Tomás Cipriano y a su hijo Pedro Pablo. También se incluye una carta reservada que Manuel María le envió a Joaquín, y que se mantuvo en este grupo atendiendo al orden dispuesto por su destinatario en su archivo personal.

En los conflictos y procesos judiciales analizados, se revelan las diferencias ideológicas y políticas existentes en el país, haciendo difícil asegurar la percepción de imparcialidad, de neutralidad e independencia de los tribunales.
