Esta obra constituye un cálido, aunque incompleto, reflejo de lo que la comunidad universitaria y la sociedad de Cantabria quisieron expresar en dos actos de emocionado recuerdo: el que le tributó la Universidad de Cantabria y el que promovió la Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, evidenciando el aprecio, respeto y admiración que sentían por un rector de breve gobierno, pero de toda una vida entregada a la Universidad. Quedan recogidas las conferencias sobre aspectos muy dispares de la actividad universitaria.
