Modelos dialógicos en la narrativa de Benito Pérez Galdós

Sinopsis del Libro

Libro Modelos dialógicos en la narrativa de Benito Pérez Galdós

Benito Perez Galdos sought a new narrative structure which would revitalize the literary models prevalent in 19th-century Spain. He found such a structure in the creation of a dialogue between normally incompatible texts — between old and new, national and foreign, high culture and low. From the confrontation of these incongruous texts a narrative is born which, through the destruction of textual hierarchies, creates an ambiguous and often duplicitous texture of storytelling. Five paradigms, based upon five Novelas Contemporaneas, are used to exemplify the dialogical structure of the new Galdosian novel.

Attention is paid particularly to his early knowledge of the works of the poet Marino, his role as protector of the Arts, and as intercessor on behalf of the philosopher Campanella. The second part of the book offers a detailed analysis of the author's writings during his Italian and post-Italian years as a result of his...

Ariel

Libro Ariel

First published in 1900 Uruguay, Ariel is Latin America's most famous essay on esthetic and philosophical sensibility, as well as its most discussed treatise on hemispheric relations. Though Rodó protested the interpretation, his allegorical conflict between Ariel, the lover of beauty and truth, and Caliban, the evil spirit of materialism and positivism, has come to be regarded as a metaphor for the conflicts and cultural differences between Latin America and the United States. Generations of statesmen, intellectuals, and literary figures have been formed by this book, either in championing...
