Method and Order in Renaissance Philosophy of Nature

Sinopsis del Libro

Libro Method and Order in Renaissance Philosophy of Nature

The volume results from a seminar sponsored by the 'Foundation for Intellectual History' at the Herzog August Bibliothek, WolfenbÃ1/4ttel, in 1992. Starting with the theory of regressus as displayed in its most developed form by William Wallace, these papers enter the vast field of the Renaissance discussion on method as such in its historical and systematical context. This is confined neither to the notion of method in the strict sense, nor to the Renaissance in its exact historical limits, nor yet to the Aristotelian tradition as a well defined philosophical school, but requires a new scholarly approach. Thus - besides Galileo, Zabarella and their circles, which are regarded as being crucial for the 'emergence of modern science' in the end of the 16th century - the contributors deal with the ancient and medieval origins as well as with the early modern continuity of the Renaissance concepts of method and with 'non-regressive' methodologies in the various approaches of Renaissance natural philosophy, including the Lutheran and Calvinist traditions.

Because they realize that the most valuable wisdom is timeless and that philosophy is for living a better life, not a classroom exercise. The Daily Stoic offers 366 days of Stoic insights and exercises, featuring all-new translations from the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the playwright Seneca, or slave-turned-philosopher Epictetus, as well as...

Sólo el amor es digno de fe

Libro Sólo el amor es digno de fe

Von Balthasar regards love as the only key and foundation of Christianity. He is not talking about any kind of love, but a love that is God himself, in his fullness of life, a love that is the source, beginning, and foundation of all things. This love has been revealed at the cross of Jesus and poured by the Spirit on the believers' hearts. Only his love can guarantee the full reality of both God and the world. Von Balthasar defines this brief book as a programmatic one. It is an early synthesis of all his theology, a classic yet updated work, indispensable to know how Christian faith is...
