Sinopsis del Libro

A lo largo de este libro advertiremos que Sanín Cano, el mismo que en su larga travesía intelectual criticó a Núñez, apreció a Silva, acompañó al grupo de Mito en su actitud modernizadora de las letras colombianas, y que exigió a la crítica literaria estudiar sólo las obras portadoras de sentido humano y concientes de su tiempo; el mismo que todas las antologías del ensayo en Colombia reconocen equívocamente como el fundador del género en el país, y el mismo que los estudios hispanoamericanos sobre el ensayo desconocen, responde a esas intenciones tan caras a Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, José Enrique Rodó, José Vasconcelos, Alfonso Reyes, Pedro Henríquez Ureña, José Carlos Mariátegui y Octavio Paz, herederos, continuadores e innovadores —como tantos otros— de la tradición de Montaigne en la América Hispánica, la gran patria que de manera lúcida José Martí llamó "Nuestra América" y que Sanín Cano recorrió de palmo a palmo e interpretó en ensayos que estudiamos para beneficio de la memoria y del imaginario literario de Colombia.
