Sin Retoques

Pasos supone el reencuentro con una paradoja: descubrir, a través de imágenes de diversos fotógrafos de Cantabria, algunos de los paisajes de la UC. Lugar extenso y múltiple, casi mágico para quien no lo conozca demasiado. Cualidad contradictoria con su naturaleza, porque lo que ocurre entre sus paredes forma parte del método científico, nada tiene que ver con magia o esoterismo, sino con el estudio minucioso de cada una de las especialidades que configuran la UC, contribuyendo al desarrollo de la sociedad de Cantabria y al avance de la ciencia.

Nadar, whose real name was Felix Tournachon (1820-1910), was a conspicuous, even astonishing presence in nineteenth-century France. Engaging and quick-witted, he invented himself over and over as a bohemian writer, a journalist, a romantic utopian, a caricaturist, a portrait photographer, a balloonist, an entrepreneur, a prophet of aeronautics. The name "Nadar" was on everyone's lips. Today, it is Nadar's photography that is remembered. His sitters, who were often his friends, included the great men and women of his time: Dumas, Rossini, Baudelaire, Sarah Bernhardt, Daumier, Berlioz, George...

This volume gathers photographic responses to Latin America's landscape by Eunice Adorno, Daniel Ramón Baca, Ricardo Barcellos, Mayerling García Gutiérrez, Santiago Hartford, Diego Levy, Pedro Linger, Myriam Meloni, Pedro Motta, Ernesto Muñiz Apángo, Mauricio Palos, Leonardo José Ramírez Cardozo, José Luis Rodríguez Maldonado, Juan Francisco Toro Diez and Álvaro Villela.

Exhibition highlights of the international photographic collection of the Foundation Televisa in Mexico with text by 81 prestigious writers. Each writer was given a copy of a photograph from the collection (from 1840-contemporary digital works) and asked to write an essay. Some of the photographers include: Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Anton Bruehl, Robert Capa, Gisele Fruend, Graciela Itrubide, Alfred Stieglitz, Cindy Sherman, Tina Modotti. Some of the writers include: Dore Ahston, Amitav Ghosh, Alvaro Mutis, Hugh Thomas, Jorge Volpi, Mike Wallace, Elena Poniatowska.
