Se gana tiempo, es decir se trabaja con claridad, amplitud y diligencia cuando se hace la historia de un edificio. Ya lo demostró el autor reconstruyendo las historias complejas del actual palacio de gobierno y de lo que fueron las alhóndigas de San Luis Potosí. Pero esta vez no se trata de piedra y poder, de adobe y maíz, sino de piedra y madero, aquí el venerable Lignum Crucis.

Esta obra no pretende ser un manual de Historia de la Literatura, sino más bien llamar la atención del lector, al hilo de unas reflexiones sugeridas, sobre los aspectos más significativos -estético, literarios, lingüçisticos, socio-culturales, etc.- de los textos literarios. el lector queda así liberado de todo prejuicio extraliterario para una recepción espontánea del texto, y en condiciones de ejercer una auténtica crítica personal del mismo.
