La Guerra Civil española fue el primer conflicto armado de la era de los medios de comunicación, por lo que en toda Europa y Norteamérica se conoció lo que estaba ocurriendo y 35.000 voluntarios, procedentes de más de 50 países, acudieron a España para luchar en el bando republicano, en las llamadas Brigadas Internacionales. Aunque se han publicado diversas obras sobre la Guerra Civil española, ninguna trata de las Brigadas Internacionales.
