The present study aims at offering an overview of Spanish-Portuguese (and Spanish-Galician-Portuguese) language contact, both in Europe and in America. It pays a special attention to the history of linguistic interferences in each region, examining how and when lexical borrowings entered the Spanish language and how they disseminated across the Spanish-speaking world.

Maximiano Cortés Moreno es Licenciado en Filología Anglogermánica, Máster en Formación de Profesores de Español como Lengua Extranjera y Doctor en Didáctica de la Lengua y la Literatura por la Universidad de Barcelona (España). En 1988 empezó su labor docente como profesor de lengua inglesa en institutos de Enseñanza Secundaria en España. Continuó en Eslovenia como profesor de español y de catalán.
