Sinopsis del Libro

Este volumen se ocupa de cuestiones de linguistica teorica y aplicada. Entre las primeras se aborda un rasgo universal de la mente y el lenguaje humanos: la necesidad de clasificar el mundo que nos rodea. Sirven aqui de ejemplo las categorias gramaticales de dos lenguas muy alejadas de las indoeuropeas: las clases nominales del mancana (una lengua de Senegal) y los clasificadores nominales del chino. Ademas, se trata tambien de la composicion de palabras en espanol mediante prefijos y de los gentilicios. De las segundas dan cuenta estudios sobre dialectologia canaria, traduccion, literatura de viajes y ensenanza de segundas lenguas."
